The Very First One: I was lucky enough to have been in the room right after Taedum Trá was born. I snapped the new family’s very first family photo! It was so beautiful! What a precious moment to have captured. I just knew it had to go on the blanket to commemorate the moment.
There’s always a first time and this is mine; the rest is truly history!
How is it possible that just about FIVE years have already passed since I developed my very first blanket? This is the blanket that has set all of the rest in motion. Looking at the pictures today brings a flood of emotions back to the surface. The emotions of the true love that drove me to create this very first one.
If you haven’t had a chance to read about how this all got started please peruse our Our Story page for more information. This is about the very time a blanket was created!
Truth be told? I fell totally and hopelessly in love the moment I heard my sister was pregnant. Yep, that’s me! (Not subtle at all) Oh how my heart sank knowing that Carly and Trace lived too far away for quick coffee dates and easy visits with them and their new addition!
BTW, I’m still amazed by the fact that Taedum Trá (pronounced ‘Tray’) was born FOUR years ago already. I know I shouldn’t be. But if you’re a parent, a grandparent or a favorite aunty, you know what it’s like to feel like it was truly just yesterday.
So, I asked myself….. Just HOW is this going to work anyway? How was I going to nurture a special relationship with this little guy. With so much distance, just how is he going to know that from day ONE I absolutely adore him?!
So, I started writing. (meaning expressing my feelings… YIKES!) and as the words came out, so did the tears. I ran out of tissue and I ran out of writing paper (only kind of kidding here)! Through my writing I realized it was important for me to make sure that Carly and Trace knew how much I love them. I wanted them to know that no matter where they are, what they do, or who they become, I will be there to love and support them.
And then I had a bigger idea. Why not include EVERYBODY who loves them. And create a keepsake that would wrap him up in all of the love his ENTIRE family felt for him. A blanket! A personalized blanket! Something Carly and Trace could use to cuddle him in their love AND our love.
I gathered both sides of the family together asking each to write a letter for little Taedum expressing their love and devotion on paper, hand it over to me, and then me make something creative out of it. Completely out of character for me normally, but not out of character for those I love! The result, a beautiful keepsake blanket that I truly hope they all cherish forever.
Taedum’s middle name, Trá, has very special significance that was captured on the blanket as well. The three letters of his middle name represent three of the strong men currently in his life (besides Trace of course). Although it wasn’t pictured here, the border reads:
T is for Timothy Lindenbach my grandpa on my mom’s side. R is for Rich Jahner my grandpa on my dad’s side. ‘Á’ is for my Great-Grandpa Ánthony on my dad’s side.
Going through this process with my family was such a beautiful experience! In fact, so amazing to me that it’s my wish to share the love with you, so you too can have an amazing experience similar to mine with your own family. Maybe I’m looking at this through rose colored glasses, but I can’t wait to enlighten your lives with this romantic notion!
Stay tuned for more profiled projects!
